Did you know there is a special way to cut burlap?
Well here is!!!
This is the easiest and cleanest way to cut burlap in a straight line!
Step 1:
See this white string...
REMOVE IT!
Step 2:
Measure your strips and pull the string at the end of your desired length.
In this instance, I was measuring 4 inches.
Pull the string ALL the way out.
If it tears, find the end and keep pulling.
You will end up with a clear line in the burlap...
Step 3: Cut at that line.
Voila...a straight line with little to no mess!

How strange. I swear I just read this same tip about the string and making a straight line in burlap on another blog last night. I guess great minds really do think alike.
