Ever wonder how 'they' got glitter to stick to wood?
You know who 'they' are!
{Disclaimer ~ I am a UTES fan...this Y is for a friend}
There's a trick to this one...kind of like my Glitter Ornaments!
Can you guess what the trick is?
Yup...it's the Clear Acrylic Coating Spray
It's the same stuff I used to seal my Stamped Tile Coasters.
1 ~ Spread Mod Podge over your wood. Don't be stingy!
Note ~ I always paint my piece first.
2 ~ Pour glitter over Mod Podge. Again, don't be stingy!
Note ~ Be sure to do this over wax paper so you can save the excess.
3 ~ Let sit for about 15 minutes and then dip sideways to get rid of excess glitter.
4 ~ Spray Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating over entire piece. Note ~ You should do this outside or in a well ventilated area. It's strong stuff!
YOU WILL GET A DULL LOOK IF 1} YOU USE TOO MUCH OF THIS STUFF AND 2} IF YOU SPRAY TOO CLOSE TO THE GLITTER! USE SPARINGLY AND SPRAY FROM OVER TWO FEET AWAY!
And there you have it...beautiful glitter that won't fall off!!!

I have always wondered . . . thanks for demystifying it for me! hugs
ReplyDeleteAwesome tip!
ReplyDeleteGo Cougars.

ReplyDeleteLove this... Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love this! I'll have to try it out, looks simple enough :)
ReplyDeleteI did this and the spray dramatically dulled the shiny look to the glitter.... :-/ You think I did it wrong?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. My son graduates high school next month and I made BHS glitter letters and they are so cute. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteAshley ...I also had the same dulled effect:(
ReplyDeleteText has been added to address the dulling issue. I tested it out several times in the last few weeks and found that:

Where did you get the the wood letter from? This is such a cute idea, and I want to make it for some dorm decorations. :)
ReplyDeleteyea I need the letter too..where did u get it from?
ReplyDeleteyou can get letters like that from Michaels arts and crafts or hobby lobby
ReplyDeleteThanks you so much for the info on how to keep the glitter on...made some holiday ornaments and I am really worried about that! Yea!!
ReplyDeleteor you could use spray adhesive, sprinkle glitter, let it set, then put Mod Podge all over it. The Mod Podge dries clear and no dulling :)
ReplyDeleteDoes this only work on wood? I was hoping to DIY Glitter a pair of shoes and I think this looks like the best technique I've seen so far!
ReplyDeleteI think u can also mix the glitter into the mod podge and spread on. And it should work on anything
ReplyDeleteWow, such glitter is an eye candy, It can be used to paint
ReplyDeletePantry Doors frames, by the way, Is that made from plastic material?
How big did you purchase each letter?
ReplyDeleteI'd say about 1x6
DeleteWhat size wood did you use?
ReplyDeleteI'd say about 1x6
DeleteAwesome! I love glitter and using it on all sorts of projects. Well done tutorial. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDoes anyone think this would work on suede shoes with rhinestones already attached?
ReplyDeleteThe spray may 'fog' up your rhinestones...not sure though.
