After much deliberation, and a load of personal reflection, I've decided to leave the wonders of blog world behind me. I will leave the blog up until the end of August 2012 so everyone can print off their favorite tutorials/recipes.

Red, White & Blue Roundup Day 13 with Simply Designing

I am so excited to be guest posting here today!

I am Ashley, the face and voice behind Simply Designing.

My blog is a fun blog that covers everything from crafts to interior design, recipes to floral design, home decor to seasonal items.  I host a weekly Friday link up party and my local Fox news station also has invited me to do a regular segment on their morning show: it is a lot of fun!

In addition, I offer interior design services, both in-home and online.

So I keep very busy around here, but most of all, I like to keep things SIMPLE!

Today I am excited to share with you my tutorial on these super cute 4th of July Topiaries!

These are so super simple to make.  But they do take a little bit of time.  But it was well worth the time it took because I think they are so cute!

  1. I used (3) 5" balls.  I decided to paint them in case you saw a bit of the styrofoam peaking out from underneath the stars.  This is not necessary...but I'm not going to lie, I am a little obsessive like that sometimes!
  2. Using a star paper punch, I punched out a lot of stars.  I think I used 3-4 sheets of 12"x12" scrapbook paper per topiary.  I actually found fun paper that was double sided, one side was a bit shimmery and the other was a matte finish.  So I decided to use both sides for my topiaries.
  3. I placed two stars together and put a pearl-top pin through them and started pinning them into the Styrofoam, overlapping the stars as I went.
  4. After all of the stars were pinned into place, I took a wooden dowel and stuck it in the bottom of my topiary.  I used a bit of hot glue to secure the dowel in place.
  5. I secured additional styrofoam into the bottom of three metal pails with lots of hot glue.  And then I inserted the other end of the wooden dowel into the foam in the pail and secured that with hot glue also.

Lastly, I hid the Styrofoam in the pail with a bit of crinkled paper.

Aren't these just too cute??  I love my 4th of July Topiaries!

Have you started decorating for the 4th of July yet?

Thanks so much for letting me guest post today!  I truly enjoyed it!
